This segment from the May 7, 1993, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Arcie Chapa’s report on the growing concerns about the safety of seafood irradiation in Louisiana. Chapa reports that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering allowing seafood irradiation in order to kill dangerous bacteria. Chapa interviews: Dr. Joseph Liuzzo, food sciences researcher at LSU; Bryan Pape and Dan Yaun of Louisiana Pure Shellfish, a company that uses a natural purging process on oysters; and Michael Zamour, a natural food store owner.
