This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from April 17, 1992, features Jeff Duhe reporting on the third week of the 1992 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. He first reports on the proposed fair share bill, or agency shop bill, which requires non-union workers to pay fees to a union. Duhe reports that the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) believes that the bill will repeal right to work. His report includes highlights of a LABI press conference with comments by Dr. Tim Ryan, an economist, and Dan Juneau, the president of LABI, discussing the findings of Ryan’s study on the economic impact of right to work in Louisiana. Duhe also interviews: Lane Grigsby of Cajun Construction; Herman Milton of Buffalo Electric; and State Representative Charles Anding, the bill’s sponsor. Duhe then conducts an in-studio interview with Victor Bussie, the president of the Louisiana AFL-CIO, and Don Allison, the executive director of right to work at LABI. They debate the fair share bill and whether it repeals the right to work law.
