This segment from the July 27, 1990, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe’s report on Governor Buddy Roemer vetoing the second anti-abortion bill passed during the 1990 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Duhe first looks back at the legislative action on the two anti-abortion bills at the session, including interviews with: Brenda Desormeaux of Louisiana Right to Life; Terri Bartlett of Louisiana Planned Parenthood; Robin Rothrock of the Louisiana League of Women Voters; Sandy McDade of the Louisiana Eagle Forum; Governor Buddy Roemer; and Gloria Allred, a national women’s rights leader. He then reports on Governor Roemer’s decision to veto the bill, including: highlights of Governor Roemer’s press conference announcing the veto; the response of the bill’s sponsors, State Representative Woody Jenkins and State Senator Mike Cross; the response of Sandy Ashby of the League of Women Voters, a pro-choice advocate; and an interview with Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff in Roe v.
