This segment from the March 23, 1990, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Karen Nachman’s report on the problems facing the state’s colleges and universities due to several years of budget cuts to higher education, including the loss of faculty and increased tuition. She interviews: State Senator Larry Bankston; Dr. G. Warren Smith, the president of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond; Dr. Jerry Baudin, the LSU comptroller; Commissioner of Administration Dennis Stine; John Kennedy, special counsel to the Governor; Dr. Ronald Montelaro, a biochemistry researcher leaving LSU; and State Representative Robert Adley. Nachman also reports on the American Bar Association threatening to pull the accreditation of the Southern University Law School due to issues that have not been addressed because of budget cuts. She interviews: B.K. Agnihotri, the chancellor of the Southern University Law School; State Representative Raymond Jetson; State Representative Kip Holden; State Senator Cleo Fields; and John Kennedy. Host: Robert Collins
