This segment from the September 14, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Ken Johnson’s report on the work of the United States Coast Guard and the National Narcotics Border Interdiction System (NNBIS) in stopping and catching drug smugglers in the Gulf of Mexico. Johnson reports that the NNBIS office in New Orleans has seized 1.1 million tons of marijuana and 2,199 pounds of cocaine in 1984.
