This segment from the January 6, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on the ongoing disagreement between Governor Dave Treen and Governor-Elect Edwin Edwards over the creation of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Ekings reports that Edwards disagrees with the Treen Administration’s merger of the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Corrections. This report includes: an interview with Secretary Winston Day of DEQ on what he hopes to accomplish in the last two months of the Treen Administration; a press conference with Governor-Elect Edwards discussing his plans to keep DEQ despite his disagreement with the method of its creation; and an interview with Ross Vincent of the Ecology Center on the changes he wants to see in the state’s environmental policy.
