Description

This segment from the September 10, 1982, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features the second part of a report on airport safety in Louisiana. This report touches on new federal funding for airports, the effect of noise pollution on neighborhoods built near airports, the problems facing the New Orleans International Airport’s plan to extend its east-west runway, and the possibility of future legislation that will allow the state to take over the management of the state’s airports. It also includes footage from the aftermath of the crash of Pan Am Flight 759 in a Kenner neighborhood in July 1982. Host: Beth George
