Description

This segment from the June 4, 1982, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features a report on the drama surrounding the House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the controversial Coastal Wetlands Environmental Levy (CWEL), a tax on the transportation of oil and natural gas. Because of the high public interest in the hearing, it was moved from a House committee room to the floor of the House of Representatives. This report includes highlights of Governor Dave Treen testifying in favor of the bill and former Governor Edwin Edwards testifying against the bill. The bill passed out of committee and will now be heard on the House floor. Host: Beth George
