This segment from the June 26, 1981, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Ron Blome’s report on the $118 million in tax exemptions passed in either the House or the Senate during the 1981 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. His report includes interviews with: Art Thiel, the executive director of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR); State Senator Bryan Poston, the chairman of the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee; and State Representative John Alario, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. It also includes highlights of State Representative Jon Johnson questioning the need for these tax exemptions during a debate on the House floor. Blome also conducts an in-studio interview with State Representative Ben Bagert and lobbyist Henri Wolbrette.
