This special episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from July 15, 1980, focuses on the conclusion of the 1980 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature.  This episode features a panel discussion with Michael O’Keefe, President of the Senate, Sonny Mouton, Executive Counsel to Governor Dave Treen, and John Hainkel, Speaker of the House.  They discussed: the disagreement over the $2 billion capital outlay bill for the state’s construction projects and Governor Treen’s decision to call a special session in order to pass the bill; the education legislation passed in the session; the passage of pay raises for statewide elected officials and state legislators; the lessons learned by Governor Treen and his administration throughout their first session; former Governor Edwin Edwards visiting the legislature; and the upcoming special session.  This discussion was preceded by footage of the debate on the floor of the House of Representatives on the capital outlay bill on the last night of the session.
