Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from October 22, 2014, features Shauna Sanford leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on the priorities for Louisiana’s next Congressional delegation. A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Michael Henderson of the LSU Public Policy Research Lab; Dr. Robert Newman, the chair of the LSU Department of Economics; Dr. David Sobek of the LSU Department of Political Science; Doug Wilkinson of the Louisiana Healthcare Education Coalition; and Brenda Hatfield, the president of AARP Louisiana. The audience members then discuss their views on the most important issues facing Louisiana’s next Congressional delegation. A panel of experts then joins the audience to answer their questions. The panelists are: Jan Moller, the director of the Louisiana Budget Project; Stephen Waguespack, the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI); Dr. Pearson Cross, a political science professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL); and Dr. James Richardson, a professor of economics at LSU. They discuss: the top priorities for the next Congressional delegation; income inequality and raising the minimum wage; Medicaid expansion; the national debt; student loan debt; national security; the Affordable Care Act; and Congressional seniority.
