Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from June 25, 2008, features Craig Freeman leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on the 2008 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Speaker of the House Jim Tucker; Jim Brandt, head of the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR); Dr. E. Joseph Savoie, head of the Board of Regents; State Senator Ann Duplessis; and Bill Barrow, reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The audience members then discuss their views on how the newly imposed term limits will affect the legislature, who benefits from the tax plans, and economic development across the state. A panel of experts then joins the audience to answer their questions. The panelists are: State Senator Michael Michot; State Senator Eric LaFleur; and Barry Erwin, president of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL). They discuss: the new pay raise for the legislature, how to implement tax plans that benefit the community and are not a burden during current economic inflation, and tuition increases for higher education.
