Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from September 19, 2007, features Craig Freeman leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on the affordable housing market in Louisiana. A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Mark Goodson, Center for Excellence; Bonnie Ferrell, builder and owner of Bonnie Ferrell and Company, Inc.; Walter Guillory, Lafayette Housing Authority; J. Terrel Brown, GMFS Lending; William Newton, Louisiana Department of Insurance. The audience members then discuss their views on the ongoing housing market crash and housing rates following Hurricane Katrina. A panel of experts then joins the audience to answer their questions. The panelists are: Sean Reilly, Louisiana Recovery Authority; Phil Hoffman, Louisiana Housing Finance Agency; and Gwen Hamilton, Baton Rouge Area Foundation. They discuss: the gap between income rates and housing costs, mixed income housing developments, and local zoning and land use plans in areas rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina.
