This special episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from January 24, 2007, features host Lynn Whitfield presenting the research and results from Louisiana Speaks, the Louisiana Recovery Authority’s plan to guide the state’s recovery and rebuilding efforts from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Whitfield reports that 1,000 Louisiana citizens have participated in workshops around the state and 2,500 residents have responded to a survey. This program outlines the major issues under consideration with Louisiana Speaks and the benefits and consequences of pursuing alternative futures. These topics are: safety from future storms; coastal protection and restoration; economic development; and community development and transportation.
