Description

This special episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from October 20, 2004, features the highlights from the Deliberation Day discussions held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a part of the PBS “By the People” Initiative. Hosts Beth Courtney and Charles Zewe first present background reports put together by MacNeil/Lehrer Productions on national security and the global economy, two of the major issues in the 2004 presidential election between President George W. Bush and United States Senator John Kerry. Zewe then leads a discussion between the Deliberation Day participants on the War in Iraq, the Patriot Act, and protecting American jobs in a global economy. Beth Courtney then moderates the question-and-answer session on these topics between the participants and a panel of experts. The panelists are: Michael C. Groves, the dean of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine; Bob Mann from the Office of the Governor; Bradley Martin of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication; and Dr. Jim Richardson, an economist and the director of the LSU Public Administration Institute.
