This program features the virtual award ceremony for the 14th Annual Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence on January 28, 2021. It includes comments by: John Davies of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation; Tony Grooms, a writer and award judge; Dianne Gaines, the widow of Ernest Gaines; Mary Ann Sternberg, author; Gabriel Bump, the 2020 award winner; and Patricia Towers, award judge. The ceremony also includes Tony Grooms interviewing Gabriel Bump, as well as Bump’s reading from his award-winning novel, “Everywhere You Don’t Belong.” Lastly, past winners of the award congratulate Bump, including: Ravi Howard; Jeffery Renard Allen; Attica Locke; Mitchell Jackson; Geronimo Jackson; Crystal Wilkinson; Ladee Hubbard; and Jamel Brinkley.
