Description

Michelle McCalope moderates a debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club on September 9, 2019, between three of the candidates for Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry: Commissioner Mike Strain (R); Marguerite “Margee” Green (D) of New Orleans; and Peter Williams (D) of Lettsworth. The debate begins with each candidate’s opening statement. Members of the press then ask the candidates questions on the following topics: their top priorities; the impact of the trade war on agriculture; the state’s medical marijuana program; the lack of grain storage in Louisiana; solutions for the dead zone caused by agricultural runoff; regulating pesticides; raising the gasoline tax; climate change; encouraging young people to become farmers; regulating florists; and youth agriculture organizations. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
