Description

A speech by retired Lieutenant General Russel Honore before the Baton Rouge Press Club on February 11, 2019. Honore, the former commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, is the leader of the Green Army, a coalition of civic, community, and environmental groups. He discusses: their coalition; their focus on cleaning up pollution; the gypsum pile at the Mosaic Uncle Sam fertilizer plant in St. James Parish that is threatening the Blind River; and their legislative priorities, including banning the open burning of ammunition in Colfax, increased air monitoring, cleaning up the drinking water systems and abandoned oil wells, decreasing the chloroprene levels, increasing the funding for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and cleaning up the Ouachita River and the Capitol City Lake. He also answers questions from the audience.
