Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from September 13, 2015, features an interview with Joe Dumars conducted by Beth Courtney. Dumars, a native of Natchitoches, played college basketball at McNeese State University from 1981-1985 and professional basketball for the Detroit Pistons from 1985-1999. He was named the MVP of the NBA Finals in 1989 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Dumars discusses: growing up in Natchitoches; his parents; his time at McNeese; his decision to complete his college degree in 2008; being drafted by the Detroit Pistons; playing with the “Bad Boys,” including Isaiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman; the honor of having the NBA Sportsmanship Award named after him; his transition from his playing career to working in the front office with the Pistons; playing against Michael Jordan; and the possibility that he will move back to Louisiana.
