This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from August 2, 1985, features an interview with Bill Dodd conducted by Gus Weill. Dodd served as a Louisiana State Representative from 1940-1948, Lieutenant Governor from 1948-1952, and Superintendent of Education from 1964-1972. He discusses: his time as a student at the Louisiana State Normal School (now known as Northwestern State University of Louisiana), where he got involved with the debate team and the college paper; his expulsion from the school for an article he published; winning the resulting court case; his time in Germany as a United States Army War Crimes trial judge during World War II; his political campaigns for State Representative and Lieutenant Governor; his failed campaigns for Governor; and his role of as the Chairman of the State Board of Education during the desegregation of the New Orleans Public Schools in 1960.
