Description
This segment from the “What’s in a Name, Part 2” episode of the series “Lost Louisiana” from March 20, 2006, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Abita Springs in St. Tammany Parish. He talks to former Mayor Brian Gowan about the origin stories for the town’s name and its history as a resort town in the early 20th century. He also speaks to lifelong resident Arnold Strain about the history of the town’s artesian well and the purity of the spring water. Whinham also tours the Abita Brewery with company president David Blossman. Lastly, Whinham visits the Abita Springs Town Hall, the site of regularly scheduled country music opry concerts.
