Description
Shauna Sanford hosts live coverage of Governor Bobby Jindal’s opening address to the 2015 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 13, 2015. Prior to the speech, Sanford and Robert Travis Scott of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) discuss the $1.6 billion budget shortfall, Governor Jindal’s pledge to not raise taxes, and the potential budget cuts to higher education. In the House chamber, Father Jeff Bayhi leads a prayer and Senate President John Alario leads the Pledge of Allegiance. During his speech, Governor Jindal discusses: his administration’s accomplishments; the need to balance the budget without raising taxes; eliminating Common Core in Louisiana; and protecting the religious freedom of business owners who do not want to participate in same-sex marriages. Following the speech, Sanford and Scott analyze Governor Jindal’s remarks.
