Description
Jeff Duhe hosts live coverage of Governor Mike Foster’s opening address to the 1999 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on March 29, 1999. Prior to his speech, Governor Foster asks State Representative Cynthia Willard-Lewis to lead a prayer. During his speech, Governor Foster discusses: the accomplishments of his administration; decreasing unemployment taxes on businesses by 15% and increasing unemployment benefits by 15%; the sentencing rules for offenders who possess a firearm during the commission of a violent crime; funding a Formosan termite control program; strengthening the penalties for drunk driving repeat offenders; civil law reforms; his support of referendums; teacher pay raises; and the future of Louisiana in the new millennium.
