Description

This episode of the series “En Francais” from November 18, 1984, features James Fontenot’s visit to the Live Oak Gardens on Jefferson Island in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. He interviews resident J. Lyle Bayless, Jr., who discusses: the history of the Joseph Jefferson House; the 1980 salt dome collapse at Lake Peigneur that nearly destroyed the island; and his efforts to rebuild the Live Oak Gardens. Fontenot then visits Abbeville, Louisiana, and interviews three Vermilion Parish officials, Assessor Daniel Broussard, Clerk of Court Russell Gaspard, and Sheriff Ray Wood Lemaire. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
