Description

This episode of the series “Folks” from May 31, 1987, focuses on eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and non-purging bulimia. Sonya Masingale interviews three women recovering from eating disorders, Pat Casolenia, Tecora Steen, and Joanie Williams. They discuss their experiences with their eating disorders and the impact of the disease on their lives. Masingale also conducts an in-studio interview with Ralph Hedger, the director of the Rader Institute for Eating Disorders in Gonzales, Louisiana. He discusses: the increased awareness about eating disorders; their treatment philosophy; their food plans for patients; defining success in the program; his experiences with patients; and society’s role in causing a person’s eating disorder.
