This episode of the series “Folks” from October 27, 1982, features host Sharon Elizabeth Sexton leading a live panel discussion with three African Americans in law enforcement. The panelists are: Deputy Garland Smith of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office; Reverend Lionel Johnson of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office; and Major Reginald Brown of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. They discuss: the work of law enforcement; their crime prevention programs; the relationship between the black community and law enforcement; the high number of African Americans in prison; and whether the white and black communities receive different treatment from law enforcement.
