Description

Brooks Read, Your Esso Reporter, reporting for WBRZ on Hurricane Audrey. Aerial footage of the devastation provided as Brooks Read and WBRZ photographer Bob Durham fly to Cameron, Louisiana. This special is considered the first to document the destruction on the ground in Cameron, Louisiana, following the hurricane. Footage provided of: devastation and debris along Main Street; the Cameron Parish Courthouse, the only building which seemed to have withstood the impact of the storm; Dr. Cecil Clark assisting patients, even though his wife and two children were still missing; Sheriff O.B Carter; Representative Alvin Dyson, who made an urgent plea for the area to be considered a major disaster area; the clock, which stopped at the time of the hurricane's arrival; civil defense workers from Lake Charles assisting; the Calcasieu branch bank, which withstood some looting; state troopers, with mention of 24 more on the way to assist Sheriff Carter; and bodies being brought to the temporary morgue, an ice house.
